Starting to think about Technology at Aspengrove

Goal of this Document

My goal in putting together this document is to highlight some of the exceptional projects that teachers at Aspengrove School have undertaken this year using technology. I think it is important to note that none of these projects were just ‘technology’ projects, they were classroom projects supported by technology; the technology added value to what was already being done in the classroom. This is an important distinction in that investing in technology for the sake of having the ‘stuff’ is definitely the wrong approach to this issue. A couple of quotes from the 2006 CESI report on ‘Technology in Canadian Independent Schools’ highlight this point:

‘The best schools...have taken the time to consider ways in which the use of technology might enhance the teaching and learning process.’
’The best technology policies and plans tie in directly to the school's mission.’

With this in mind I have done my best to outline below what we have accomplished so far with technology at Aspengrove School and how we might best more forward. There is currently a very real excitement amongst the staff and students at the school about using technology to enhance teaching and learning and I think that with some thoughtful investment in our technology infrastructure we have a real opportunity to move Aspengrove School into the 21st Century.
